While outside in the yard yesterday I found this unknown bug on one of the trees. It was down near the bottom of the tree enjoying the nice sunny day. I decided that this thing needed to have its picture taken. I took as a couple hundred shots hoping to get some decent pictures. Here are a few for your enjoyment. Let me know if you're able to identify this creature. I think this is a Luna Moth (Actias luna). I found this website and compared images.

All photographs taken with a Nikon D100.
Wonderful! Never imagined just how beautiful they were up close and personal.

Posted by: Da Goddess at April 22, 2004 7:15 PMHey, Joe -
Just found you through Photo Friday. These shots are amazing! I can't believe the detail and the colors. Very beautiful!
What part of Indiana do you call home? I'm down south, not far from French Lick (closest town you might have heard of).
Take care,
Amy
I love the detail in the close up shots. Very nice!

I have goosebumps watching this moth. I hate moths but I have to admit that these are excellent macro shots. WELL DONE!
Posted by: Tine at May 2, 2004 3:35 AMBeautiful. It makes me regret not taking more pictures whenever my girls and I have overwintered a moth's cocoon. Usually I am in too much of a hurry to release it before it beats its wings to pieces. These are very nice photos.
