Gold Medal

Last night was the opening ceremonies for the 2006 Winter Olympics held in Torino, Italy. To me it is an exciting time. The worlds athletes converge in one spot to compete for the Gold Medal. I have been looking forward to the Winter Games and I plan on watching as many of the events that I can. I have even set some Tivo wish lists to help me make sure I do not miss my favorite events that may air while I am at work.

There is another type of gold medal that has me excited as well. It is given by the children's elementary school to those who read a certain amount of pages over the course of the school year. Last year 96% of the students and faculty achieved their gold medals. Both of our children have already completed enough reading to receive their gold medals. Other family members are allowed to participate and I have been reading along as well. I have surpassed the required 2500 pages to achieve my gold medal. Here is the list of books that I have read.

  • Going Postal - Terry Pratchett
  • Exile - R.A. Salvatore
  • The Historian - Elizabeth Kostova
  • 1776 - David McCullough
  • Snow Crash - Neil Stephenson
  • The Laughing Corpse - Laurell K. Hamilton
  • Map of Bones - James Rollins
